π§Ά Crochet Letter “S” Keychain with Daisy Flowers πΌ
A chunky, cuddly keychain you can make in one evening ✨
Hi lovely crafters! π Today I’m sharing my pattern for a chunky crochet letter “S” keychain, decorated with a daisy, a little yellow flower, leaves and tiny buds. I made mine in royal burgundy, but you can use any color you love. π
π Finished size: about 8 cm tall, 5.5 cm wide, 1.7 cm thick.
𧡠Materials
- Worsted weight mercerized cotton yarn: burgundy for the letter, plus white, butter yellow and sage green π¨
- 3 mm crochet hook (keep your tension tight) πͺ
- Polyester fiberfill ☁️
- 1.2 mm floral wire, 17 cm long
- Tapestry needle πͺ‘
- Gold split key ring with a swivel clasp π
- Blocking mat and pearl-head pins π
π Abbreviations (US terms)
MR magic ring · sc single crochet · inc 2 sc in the same stitch · dec sc2tog · sl st slip stitch · hdc half double crochet · dc double crochet · ch chain
π€ The Letter
Worked in continuous spiral rounds, with no joining.
| Round | Instructions |
| 1 | MR, 6 sc (6) |
| 2 | inc in each stitch (12) |
| 3–42 | sc in each stitch (12) |
| 43 | dec x6 (6) |
| 44 | dec x3 (3) |
Your tube should measure about 18–19 cm after round 42, so add or remove a few rounds depending on your tension. π
Before closing, bend the wire into an “S” shape and fold each end over by about 3 mm. Slide it into the tube and stuff firmly around it. After round 44, fasten off, close the opening and weave in the end. πͺ‘
π Shaping the “S”
- Top curve: about 7 cm
- Diagonal middle: about 5 cm
- Bottom curve: about 7 cm
The top curve opens downward to the right, and the bottom curve opens upward to the left. Mist the letter lightly with water, pin it flat on your blocking mat and let it dry for 12 hours. π§
πΌ The Flowers
π€ Large white daisy
Make a MR with yellow yarn and work 5 sc, then sl st to join and fasten off. Attach white yarn to any stitch. In each stitch work: sl st, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, sl st. This gives you 5 rounded petals.
π Small yellow flower
Work the same way in butter yellow, with a white French knot in the center. Each petal is: sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st.
π Leaves (make 2, in sage green)
Ch 8. Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook:
- First side: sl st, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc
- Tip: 3 sc in the last chain
- Second side (along the bottom loops): sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st
Fasten off and embroider a small vein down the middle.
π€ Tiny buds (make 3–4, in white)
MR, 6 sc. Work one more round of sc (6). Stuff lightly, then dec x3 and close. Embroider a short green stem on each bud. πΏ
πͺ‘ Assembly
- Sew the flower cluster onto the lower-left curve of the “S”: the large daisy first, then the small yellow flower, the two leaves and the buds around them. πΈ
- At the top of the letter, make a small loop with ch 6 and sew it firmly in place. Attach the gold key ring and swivel clasp. π
Measurements may vary slightly depending on your yarn and tension.

⏱️ Skill Level & Time
Skill level: Easy to intermediate. If you can work single crochet in continuous rounds and make a magic ring, you can make this keychain.
Time: About 3–4 hours in total. The letter tube takes the longest; the flowers and leaves are quick once you get into a rhythm. It's a perfect one-evening project.
π§Ά Choosing Your Yarn
Mercerized cotton is the best choice for keychains. It has a soft shine, holds its shape well and doesn't fuzz up as quickly when the keychain rubs against keys and the inside of a bag. Acrylic yarn also works and is easier to find, but it may pill a little over time.
Whatever yarn you choose, use the same weight for every part so the flowers sit in proportion with the letter. For the letter itself, deep colors like burgundy, navy or forest green make the white daisy really stand out.
π‘ Tips for a Neat, Firm Letter
- Use a stitch marker at the start of each round. With 42 rounds of the same stitch, it's very easy to lose count.
- Keep your tension tight. A tight fabric hides the stuffing and the wire, so no white fiberfill peeks through.
- Stuff as you go. Insert the wire and add fiberfill every few centimetres rather than all at the end. This gives an even, smooth tube with no lumps.
- Fold the wire ends. Folding each end over by about 3 mm (as described above) stops the wire from poking through the stitches over time.
- Shape gently. Bend the "S" a little at a time. Sharp bends can push the wire through the fabric.
π Make It Personal
Once you've made the "S", you can use the same tube method for almost any letter. Simply shape the wire into the new letter and adjust the number of rounds to match its length. Letters with straight parts (like "F" or "T") can be made from two separate tubes sewn together.
Initial keychains make lovely gifts for birthdays, teachers, bridesmaids and friends. Try matching the letter color to someone's favorite color, or swap the daisy for a tiny rose for a more romantic look. πΉ
π§Ό Care
Because the letter contains wire, don't put it in the washing machine. If it gets dirty, spot-clean it with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let it air-dry flat. Reshape it gently with your fingers if needed.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make it without wire?
Yes. Just stuff the tube firmly and sew the curves into place with a few hidden stitches. It will be softer and less precise in shape, but it still looks lovely.
Can I use a bigger hook?
You can, but the stitches will open up and the stuffing may show. If you use a bigger hook, use thicker yarn too, and expect a larger finished keychain.
Is it suitable for small children?
Not for babies or toddlers. It contains wire and small sewn-on parts, so it's best for older children and adults.
How do I make the flowers lie flat?
Pin them on your blocking mat, mist lightly with water and let them dry before sewing them onto the letter.
I hope you enjoy making your own letter keychain! If you make one, I'd love to see it. π
